HOW DO WE STOP THE KILLING and avoid a Trumpian World War?
The new Holocaust deniers are Netanyahu, Katz and Trump
“Israel hit Gaza refugee camp” was the 29th July news headline on Al Jazeera. Who but war criminals would bomb a refugee camp filled with women and children? Have Israelis forgotten what the Nazis did to Jews in Europe?
On 30th July the New York Times reported that “Saudi Arabia reluctantly entered the U.S.-Iran war yesterday” by joining American airstrikes against Iran-linked militias in Iraq. At the same time, The Guardian reported drone strikes against Egypt. This is how Donald Trump is creating a new World War, one country at a time.
I have taught peace studies. The best way to achieve safety for your citizens and to create strong borders is to build good relations with your neighbors. Don’t bomb them: do business with them. Rabin understood that. Perez understood that. Netanyahu does not, and nor does Trump.
I have lectured about the horrors of World War II and the >60 million deaths across Europe and Asia (maybe as many as 3% of the world’s total population died during WWII). Two thirds of war deaths were civilians, mainly women and children. After 1945, the United Nations was created to promote peace, stability and economic justice. Now we are confronting a new World War, launched by Israel and the United States of America in defiance of the United Nations. The world is going mad.

In December 2023 South Africa charged Israel before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) with breaching the Genocide Convention of 1948. This was the first formal challenge to Netanyahu’s war in Gaza. In September 2025, a United Nations commission of enquiry concluded that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza since the Hamas attack of 7th October 2023. During 2024 the ICJ issued three “provisional measures” against Israel demanding access to humanitarian aid, the end of famine, and an end to genocide in Rafah, southern Gaza (the risk of which the ICJ said had significantly intensified). Israel ignored all three of these injunctions. Like the U.S.A., Israel rejects the authority of the ICJ.
I have taught and written about terrorism, about the evils of the Nazis and the hate-filled Hitler terror regime that killed 6 million Jewish victims in the Holocaust. I have studied the Nuremberg Trials where Nazi war criminals were judged and the concept of “genocide” was created by the legal scholar Raphael Lemkin as a new way to define a crime against humanity. Lemkin and world leaders wanted “never again:” Humanity and the International Community should never again allow the deliberate extermination of a group of people. And yet during my lifetime we have watched (and certain Western governments have funded and supported) actions of genocide in Cambodia, Rwanda, Sudan, and now in Gaza.
We learn that Israel’s Minister of Defense is planning to create a “humanitarian city” in the south of Gaza, into which he intends to herd two million Palestinians - like cattle, just as Nazi Stormtroopers herded Jewish victims into cattle trucks on their way to Auschwitz. The defense minister Israel Katz is a creative thinker: he is re-inventing a Nazi Concentration Camp. The black humor of George Orwell must have inspired his choice of the name “humanitarian.” We expect to see the entrance gate to his “humanitarian city” sporting the slogan Arbeit macht frei, completing the black farce of Israel Katz. This Jewish neo-Nazi defense minister has the support, apparently, of Benyamin Netanyahu and of Donald Trump. Here are three men who have unlearned the lessons of the Nazi Holocaust, and who are determined to repeat it in Palestine.
Who can stop these crimes against humanity?
If President Donald Trump stopped funding Israel, and stopped supplying the weapons of war, he could end the genocide. Press reports suggest that Trump sees in Gaza a great opportunity for him and his family to make money from real estate investments and international tourism …. leaving the Palestinian population of Gaza to waste away in Israel Katz’s ‘humanitarian’ concentration camp.
What, I wonder, could change Trump’s mind?
It was announced on 19th July 2026 that two U.S. servicemen had been killed in Jordan by an Iranian drone. These three thoughts passed through my head:
1) I was glad they were not two innocent Jordanians killed by America’s war.
2) I felt sorrow for the families of the two dead Americans, for their loss and sadness.
3) But - tragically – it occurred to me that of we had 22 dead Americans, or 122 dead Americans, the higher numbers of casualties might force the U.S.A. to wake up to the brutal reality of war. Of THEIR war in the Middle East.
Trump’s unprovoked attacks against Iran, the Israeli genocide in Palestine and the destruction of Gaza funded by the U.S.A. have caused thousands of innocent civilian women and children to be killed. In Lebanon and in the West Bank as well. This war has caused the destruction of thousands of homes and schools and businesses, leaving tens of thousands of wounded victims whose lives will never be the same again. But no one in America seems to care.
Poor Palestinians, poor Lebanese, poor Iranians .... poor thousands of families whose lives, loves and livelihoods are being destroyed. American arms corporations are making billions of dollars in profit, as they drag us slowly into America’s new World War.
Iran needs to kill more American soldiers, so that American voters wake up to the brutal reality of war and demand that their president stop the killing. How else can we dampen Trump’s lust for bombing civilians, Katz’s neo-Nazi delirium, and Netanyahu’s obsessive desire to destroy his neighbors?
Stop killing innocent civilians in Palestine, Lebanon and Iran …. in Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. Peace is a better option.
